Credit Repair Agencies: The Truth
When trying to resolve your debt problems
it may seem like a reasonable solution to turn to an agency that offers help in solving debt problems. Some agencies offering
debt counseling and reorganization plans may charge high fees and fail to follow through on services they sell. Some may even mis represent the terms of a debt consolidation loan, failing to explain certain costs or to mention you are signing over your home as collateral! Resist the advance-fee loan guarantee from compan-
ies as they may be illegal. Legitimate creditors never guarantee that the con-
sumer will get the loan. Under the Federal Telemarketing Sales Rule, a seller or telemarketer who guarantees or represents a high likelihood of getting you a loan may not ask for or receive payment until you've received the loan.
